The USSRs Valeriy Borzov wins the race in the Olympiastadion, Munich, West Germany. Also pictured, from left to right, are Trinidad and Tobagos Hasely Crawford (#895), East Germanys Bernd Borth, Frances Alain Sarteur (#264), West Germanys Jobst Hirscht (#369), Borzov (#932), and Cote d Ivoires Kouakou Komenan (#118).
Borzov, Crawford, Hirscht and Fray all qualified for the final, where Borzov won the gold. Three days later the Soviet also won gold in the 200m final, his favoured event, and became the first non-American since 1928 to complete the sprint double
