Athletics - 1972 Munich Olympics - Mens 200m Final
The runners approach the bend in the Olympiastadion, Munich, West Germany. Left to right: East Germanys Siegfried Schenke (#344), the USAs Larry Burton (#976), the USSRs Valeriy Borzov (#932), West Germanys Martin Jellinghaus (#371), the USAs Chuck Smith (#1016), Italys Pietro Mennea (#528), and the USAs Larry Black (#973).
Borzov dominated the final, winning the gold by almost two metres over Black who took silver, with Italys Pietro Mennea finishing third. Borzovs win completed a 100m/200m double, the first sprinter from outside North America to achieve this. Fourth-place finisher Larry Burton later played for five years in the NFL as a wide receiver for the New Orleans Saints and San Diego Chargers
