The two men were also teammates for Everton, and both are one of the twelve Double Internationals to have played cricket and football for England.
Sharp made 518 first-class appearances for Lancashire between 1899 and 1925, scoring 22015 runs with 36 centuries and taking 434 wickets. He captained the county between 1923 and 1925. He played three tests for England in the 1909 Ashes series. In football he won the FA Cup with Everton in 1906 and gained two England caps.
Makepeace played 487 first-class games for Lancashire between 1906 and 1930, scoring 25207 runs and making 42 centuries. He played four tests for England during the 1920/1 Ashes series. He also won the FA Cup with Everton alongside Sharp, and gained four England football caps
