Bertram MacDonald & Stanley Ashby

Athletics
British Olympians, Bertram MacDonald, left, of Birchfield Harriers, and Stanley Ashby, of Godiva Harriers, pictured in 1927.
MacDonald represented Great Britain at the 1924 Paris Olympics, winning a silver medal in the 3, 000m team race. The first three runners placed on each six man team counted, and MacDonald was third overall, only beaten by legendary Finns Paavo Nurmi and Ville Ritola.
Ashby represented Great Britain at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics in the 1500m. The badge on his chest refers to the England-France athletics meet at Stamford Bridge on 30th July 1927. England won by 66 points to 45, with Ashby making his international debut on the eve of his 20th birthday, at the time, the youngest-ever athlete to represent Great Britain in the 1500m/mile. That year he was the winner of the Midland 4-mile title, and would won the mile title a year later
