Horse Racing Red Rum trains on Southport beach, Merseyside, in April 1980, the week before that years Grand National. The legendary horse won the famous race in 1973, 1974 and 1977, and also came second in the two intervening years. He was trained on the sand and in the sea at Southport as it proved therapeutic for a bone disease in his hoof
