Swimming - 1972 Munich Olympics - Mens 100m Backstroke Final
East Germanys Roland Matthes on the way to winning the gold in a new Olympic Record in the Swimming Hall, Olympic Park, Munich, West Germany.
At the Munich Games, Matthes won golds in the 100m and 200m backstroke, defending the titles he had won at Mexico City in 1968. He also won a silver in the 4x100m Medley Relay and a bronze in the 4x100m Freestyle Relay
