The USSR won the silver, West Germany the bronze, East Germany finished 5th, Poland 6th, France 7th and Italy 8th.
It was a bittersweet feeling for Hart, a favourite for the individual 100m title who was disqualified after failing to turn up for his quarter-final heat after being given the wrong time
